I'd like to know who here are actually SELLING something online -- if possible apart from hosting.

What/How did you get the product? -- Outsource development, dropshipping, wholesale, self-developed

Are you involve in auctions? -- eBay, Lelong

How's your website? -- shopping cart, sales letter

How are you doing now? How're sales? One a day, one a week, etc ...

Okay, this is mine:

What do you sell? -- Some sort of information and 'real' tangible thing

What/How did you get the product? -- For the info products, I create it myself. And for the tangible produtcts, I get them from wholesalers. Only a few time I'd successfully dropship.

Are you involve in auctions? -- eBay US / UK. Not to cater for the local market.

How's your website? -- eBay and website. Not using sales letter.

How are you doing now? How're sales? One a day, one a week, etc ... -- Well, it depends. Just good enough to pay monthly car.

I'm not a Powerseller. I'm just doing it for fun, and tried to get the golden niche market. Once I tapped into the most seeking product, but hardly can find it in the market. Have to wait 2-3 months for the supplies.


Beware of the charge by Paypal, eBay and any other marketplace. It'll kill us to death.

USA is a very big market. Research, research and research.
Christmas is coming. This seasonal time, if you can supply what they want in a cheap price, that's bonus.

Great to know about all these ... well ... let me tell mine ...

I started selling my own thing when I created a tutorial video on how to create your own ebook covers with Photoshop Elements (mini Photoshop). And I offered it in download and CD.

About the CD version, I used a fulfilment company because I don't want to mess around with the packing and shipping. And since most customers are in the US, I used a US company to do that ... But of course, that took a lot from the gross sale.

Then that lead to some enquiries if I can design the ebook covers for them. So I also offer ebook cover designs as well, but not as main business activities. I don't even promote this much. Those who knows, knows ...

Recently, I did a script and some graphics for a different kind of pop-up. I give away free samples and upsell an extra of 20 more graphics. Doing quite OK with this. Infact I am planning to enhance the script ...

eBay? Lelong? ... I don't do them ... but I've heard some Malaysians are quietly making 5-figure with eBay. I heard of a man selling orchids, a lady selling jewelry, a kid selling football jerseys, and all of them are operating from Malaysia.

For me -- what's next?

I in the rollout of some t-shirt designs, enhancing my pop-up script, creating some more tutorial videos (on something else than ebook covers) and under development of a high-end product (a web script -- outsourced development).

Seems like you guys are doing great ... wish me luck as well ...

I started mine selling the 'secret' contact info.
Just testing the market.

Time consuming is for me to research for it.

But the result is not bad.

Only nowadays, after being left out after the latest Google dance, my position is nowhere.

I did an online selling too for 5 years now ... I am selling things for men's that have problem.

What do you sell?
Men's health product.

What/How did you get the product? Mixed some get from supplier and some custom made.

Are you involve in auctions? No

How's your website? We are the first website that accept credit card for men's product. This is our niche last time (2000) coz many people are to shy buying from the shop.

How are you doing now? How're sales? 2001 till 2002 we are doing great. From online we also earn offline customer. Monthly sales somes times up to 100K. After 2003 till now is just normal due to many competition on the men's product.

Our customer is worldwide. 60% Sales from Malaysia 40% from outside.

We really believe that we can really make a lot of money online if really plan long term. Another thing, you make sure the product you sell really help another people. Most of our sales is from repeate sales from same customer.

In order to venture in an online shops, you need to do a deep research.
Reasearch result doesn't come overnight. Some will get it 2-3 years.

But once you touch the 'niche', that's best.

Like unlimited, who sells men's health product.

Yes, traffic is an important thing.
But it's different with real products. Small traffic also can generate revenues.

You might have a high ROI (return on investment), depending on your advertisement.
Consider Adwords / Overture.

It is no secret at all. It is through volume's sales. Before we are online no one know us but after online the word spread out easily. Many want to be our dealer.

For one of our Custom product 2pxxx cost RM128 - supplied to 10 dealer for 100 unit per dealer will give us a total sales of RM128,000. The real profit minus our cost & dealer margin is about 30K. But this not all the time based on customer demand. For some other month each dealer order less than 20 unit so this time we will not reach more than 100K. That is business.

One more thing we have a contact in China & Japan and market through their distribution. Online make us appear big and give us credibility.

Advertisement is important. We advertise in Malaysian Yellow Pages, search engine and others classified adds. We also distribute flyer in the shopping mall and car park. Also create bumper car sticker.

Our website is a home grown website just like your website. Not a fancy one but served our purpose.
