This is provided the owner of the site that features your articles provides an active backlink to you.
I have had on many occasions, emailed site owners to turn on my links or else refrain from using my article. A hassle to deal individually with these site owners.

[2] Tons of Traffic
My experience after submitting numerous articles is that traffic trickles in and not in droves; unlike a press release, digg, shoutwire and fark.

Other than the 2 points I pointed out, I agree with the rest of your writeup.
I have stopped articles submissions and continue to build unique contents on my sites.

Pardon my french, but there are some morons out there who would go to the extent of stripping off your by-line completely. Here's my 2-cent advice. If you submit your articles manually, do take note of the website PR as well as how authoritative that website is. You don't want any tom, dick or harry behind those websites that could violate your articles copyright. Good article directories like ezinearticles.com or goarticles.com do not strip off your live links. Once you've compiled a good list of article directories to submit to, stick to it. Few good article directories will do you just as good as many nonsense directories you may submit to.

Great articles picked up by authoritative websites will certainly bring droves of traffic to your website, period. If any junk articles can also bring in truckloads of traffics then wah lau ee everyone will dump PPC and SEO ler.

The technique here is to choose the right authoritative niche article directory for your content website. Then spend some time to write great articles. Website editors are just as good as a human. They only want great articles at no cost.

I agree with you that goarticles and ezinearticles (another is articlecity) does not strip away your active link. However, these sites allow webmasters to freely copy/paste your article in their own sites. That is why I experienced contacting all these copy/paste webmasters to provide an active backlink.

Great article. The technique has always been very powerful, although, there has always been a danger that the wrong type of site will run your articles. I favour allowing people to use them for free, but needing to be approved / ask permission first.
