As a said, the pay ($) for each click is different. For example: highly competitive keyword can worth few dollars a click while some normal keywords can only cost few cents.

My assumption is, the ads at your site are the low paying keywords.

My second assumption is that, you click your own ads and google knew it. Hence exempted the pay from those clicks.

the price vary, depends on which page the links are but the price range is between $30 to $50 USD per link.

and I'd sold for $5 per month on new site lol, if your site is new or have low PR, offer long term deal, like $30 for 6 months...don't ever offer permanent links for that spot, I'd done that and deeply regret it...

I did hack the theme a bit and thus you can see the ads on the left sidebar. But I dont think thats enough I think I am going to need to hack some more, probably even find a new theme which is optimised for Adsense. Can anyone recommend such a theme or tell me how do I hack the theme to optimise it for Adsense?

i guess this is an old topic but i find it to be very interesting. how do you go about selling links in these forums? ie digitalpoint or sitepoint.

lets say i have a simple information website on gifts with a home page of a pr4. then i go an advertise to put links on my website is say... $10 a month. is that correct?

if there are people interested in it: how many shud i take? meaning how many links max shud i put on my home page?

and how do you guys accept payment? paypal is no good for us here in malaysia

try spend some times here Link Sales Forum and you will know how the transaction made. You will get a rough idea on how much value link on your site how many link you should sell.

Currently, I'm only use paypal to accept payment and I don't see a reason why you said that paypal is no good for malaysian because its handle $3000 - $5000 USD per month for me without any problem.

no, paypal can't issue check to us but we can withdraw paypal fund if we have US bank account.

I'd read few tips about this here not so long ago and it will give you some basic idea.
