A site that can earn at least few millions (USD) a day, but choose not to!

In contrast to this thread where plentyoffish.com earns millions using Adsense, there is another site, Craigslist that can earn at least 500 millions a month for advertising revenue, but choose not to.

Why is that? In the age where everybody is looking to earn an extra dime why they choose to sacrifice their potential fat earnings? Here's their answer:..

Jim Buckmaster, the CEO of craigslist said: "If it's not something that users are asking for," he says, "we don't consider it."

Readings: Zen and the Art of Classified Advertising, WSJ Interview with Jim Buckmaster.

Special note: Craigslist.org is the top ten most visited site of the internet

The questions raised here is how do we (the webmasters) feel comparing with the philosophy of these guys (from craigslist), where we try to stuck in ads for every possible space while them, prefer to concentrate totally on their user and turn away all the advertisers? Is it good or bad? Or it is just simply wrong?

It would be interesting to hear some opinions

twentymoon is on a distinguished road
just think about how Wikipedia would earn if they use adsense?

some people just like to express themself, while others try to make a living or at least be able to pay for their hosting/bandwith. (or quick cash -MFA)

i have great respect for sites/blogs who had large number of visitors yet did'nt implement adsense or affliate whatsoever.

this is my first post.

Ah, that wouldn't possible. Wikipedia is a community effort. They only can get $ thru donation.

Yeah. The main purpose (focus) of a web presence has to be its visitors/users/clients. But seemed that it has changed. A lot of webmasters make the mistake that the main focus is presenting their ads for the users to click. If that is their focus, why build a good site?
