While keywords are important, some gurus actually proposed going against the current, so to speak, for those websites that are relatively new. Imagine the number of websites that are targeting a particular keyword that many users of search engines are seeking and you probably be listed some few hundred thousand sites away! However, if your "keyword" is something that few users will search, you probably end up being No. 1 and you get noticed in a particular market niche, small as it may be. It's like choosing between being a rich man in a small town and being a poor man in a big city!

NOTE: The above applies only to relatively new websites. If your website is high on the Alexa ranking, by all means compete with the big-timers, LOL.

I appreciate your post and agree with the explained functions of keywords. I think it's up to the online business owners or SEO experts to choose one of the followings:
  1. To be a rich man in a small town, OR
  2. To be a rich man in a big city!

My point is why should an SEO effort target keywords with low KEI to be found more easily and end up unwillingly in a niche just be found in some far-off result page?

The other option is to target a desirable, but realistic niche with better strategies to be found where the website goal is. I agree that this could take more time and concentrated efforts, but if this is the approach to SEO, the website owner or SEO expert selects the target (niche) and attempts to get the website there.

Although it's challenging and hard, but this is what an SEO is supposed to cause to happen. What do you think?

  5. Optimizing the content for search engines,
  6. Repeating the above steps of 3, 4 and 5 to create more relevant keyword-rich optimized content based on the list of keywords found
Now, I think we can add the following to our list:
7. Use keywords with high KEI.

In addition, I'd like to add a point:
Every now and then, usually every six months, you have to perform another keyword research, because searchers change their search phrases!

Will anybody like to add anything to this list?

Hi Site Booster, I didn't realize that you are a foreigner. This forum can use your expertise to good effect! Your advice are very specific and I am sure engaging your services would be a mutually satisfying experience. I have just bookmarked your blog at Site Booster for future reference at Dummipedia.org, my English website. Now I am hurting from the recent oil price increases. Once I am ready to launch my website in a big way, I will buy your service. Have to be fair sometimes, and can't expect everything to be free when the other person's bread and butter depends on what he is giving, LOL.

This dummipedia website follows a similar structure to teknologi-maklumat.com. Would be glad if you can also take a look while I try to work out how to implement the advice that you have given.

Thumbs up

Hi there. Yes, I'm a foreigner in your country, but don't feel like an outsider as people are so hospitable here. Thanks for the link to my website. I will add some more content to it quite soon to make it more usable for Malaysia and Malaysians.

The good news will be more specific and thorough services to boost your website business!

I will have a look at your site and share my viewpoints.

Best wishes and good luck with your Dummipedia project.
