Let's Discuss How to Choose Keywords! - 28-01-2008, 12:12 AM

Hi Everyone,

Suppose you're working for a travel company in Taiwan. As SEO expert of the company, you're expected to launch a keyword discovery campaign to win the following:
  1. More Targeted Traffic,
  2. Higher Search Engine Ranking,

Here's the question: What are the steps you're going to take?

I invite everyone who knows anything about "Search Engine Marketing" to participate and help others get great ideas for doing so.

Best wishes,

..........

Well, one week's passed and I've not seen anyone posting any reply to this thread. I'm a bit surprised. Anyway, I start by what I think could be the initial step and would like to see what you've got to say.

----------

I will start first by determining what the niche market of the travel company is and trigger my keyword research based on that.

Then, ... you tell me what ....

... thanks for the comments ... also I'm happy for your first position in Google. Well done!

-----------------------------

So, based on what you've mentioned, we should have some content and make it more seo friendly and relevant. Right? So, considering your suggestions, from the beginning, the steps will be like:
  1. Finding the niche market for the company,
  2. Performing a keyword research to find a list of them,
  3. Creating keyword-rich content for the website,
  4. Keeping the relevancy in our content,
  5. Optimizing the content for search engines,
  6. Repeating the above steps of 3, 4 and 5 to create more relevant keyword-rich optimized content based on the list of keywords found

... Great! I'm happy we're going ahead well.

OK, Let's not forget the topic:"How to Choose Keywords!"

... Any Comments on that?

... Hey Where do you look for good keywords? Please show me some webpages or introduce some softwares that could be helpful in choosing keywords.

One example is Google Suggest: Google

As you start typing your search words, Google tells you what terms are searched by internet searchers. Check it out. It's a cool page!

Also inside Yahoo search box, you see the phrases that are usually searched by people in connection to the word you've chosen.

There's also another possibility:
  1. Open a Google Account
  2. Go to My Account page
  3. Tick the website you're working on
  4. Go to Webmaster Tools
  5. You find the keywords mostly searched and those by which your site is found.

Note: This method could sometimes be very helpful specially when you want to know how people find your site and most of the times. Then, you can optimize more pages focused on those keywords.

Yes, it's called Google Webmaster Tools and sitemap is part of it.
Anyway, up to here we checked some of the free methods to gain information about the keywords that are used on search engines.

Here's the question now:
Which of those keywords do you think are better for your website? and how do you select them?

Hey Weilies,
I'm working on an SEO Checklist with explanations which makes SEO easy to learn for all. I've put together around 200 SEO tips. Keep checking and you'll see it when it's completed. It won't take long. Best of luck to you.
