Thumbs up Making Website Rank #1 in Search Engines

Hi. Let me introduce myself. I am a programmer and had attended numerous professional course in SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and I am currently a Computer Forensic specialist with a Security Company.

I have noticed that Malaysia has many unsuccessful websites because they are NOT "searchable" or "top ranked" in Google, Yahoo and MSN. These 3 search engines represents 80% of searched conducted in the world.

Imagine you are a proud website owner like http://myphone.com.my. This website has been ranked top in nearly all phone related searches done in http://msn.com.my

Don't believe? Try searchine for "nokia malaysia", "malaysia handphone pricelist", "motorola phone price" or other search terms there. This is just an example on how a good SEO Professional can bring in more traffic and visitors to your website. You will have more chances to convert the visitors into a buyer as well!

I am attached to PLC Web Sdn. Bhd. http://plcweb.com.my and I will hold a seminar on this subject somewhere at the end of the year to help Malaysia businesses to simply make their website rank higher in Search Engines.

As for the meantime, if you have any enquiries or questions, please feel free to mail me at melvin@plcweb.com.my

Oh yeah.

I believe the best information comes in the "free" form. You don't need to pay in order to learn something with Internet.

The best guide on SEO I've read is SEOMoz' beginners guide. Read that, and you are well on your way

A few tips since you want it

1) Make the URL crawlable + friendly: make sure the search engine bots are able to navigate every single page of your site thru links and navigation structure of your site should be as flat as possible. And the URL should be friendly ( instead of www.yoursite.com/index.php?=services , put www.yoursite.com/services/ ).

2) Some simple onpage optimization: Put keywords in Title Tag, H1/H2 tags

3) Build links: Submit your site to directories. Exchange links. Leave comments in other people's blog. Submit to social bookmarking sites. Write good content that people want to link to.

4) Beware of what not to do: Don't spam your contents with keywords. Don't join a link network (google hate it). Don't spam links. Don't link to a bad neighbourhood (bad links). Don't build too many links in one day for new site.

Smile RankHigherSearchEngine.com

Sorry for the late reply. I saw friends here asking "why no SEO tips here".

So, I have spent some time to make a website dedicated for all friends here: http://rankhighersearchengine.com

Thx LimCS for your support. For friends who have more tips on SEO to share, please drop me a mail and I will post the Tips into the website and put your name there and link to your website also.

I will be researching more SEO Tips and has always performed a lot of R&D on my clients website to see whether those SEO optimization does gives results. Too many myths and beliefs around unethical SEO optimization that we always don't dare to try.

Well, I hope you guys here can share more tips and I will post them into the website. Let's help each other to gain more visitors and traffic by making website rank #1 in Search Engines Results...

LATEST HEARD: Google has filed a patent about their human review + Page Rank technique which will focus more on good content. I wonder whether their human reviewers will be bias / unfair and make certain website rank lower...

limcs,
I very good question came into my mind after reading your post.
How do you actually DIFFERENTIATE link networks and directories? aren't they the same?

No prob.

Directories sample: dmoz.org, dir.yahoo.com ...etc

Link Network: Linkvault.com, Coop Advertising Network.

If you submit to a directories, well, at most you will get 1 link back from that directory.

If you join a link network, you will need to link to the network, and as a result, you will get the network link back to you, normally a lot. The number of links back to you depending on a number of factors set by the link network.

So, I can say that link directories are kinda like a 1 way link back to your site, while link networks are consider as reciprocal links right?

Seriously, Link Network like Link-Vault has already been banned by Google. Google has a distinct advantage over other search engines because it is not-so-automated. They review lots of Link Network and they have mentioned they don't like them.

Quality Content with genuine links to you from forum, blog comments or some other PR5 and above websites will be more effective that having 1000s of PR 0 websites linking to you in a neighbourhood.

One more thing I wanted to add...are DIRECTORIES, human operated or server automated? I know that DMOZ are human operated (which you don't hear from them until a few months, editor sleeping i guess), but are all DIRECTORIES like that too?

A lot of directories are human editted.

Some directories require reciprocal link and some doesn't.

The way link network operate, for example, each person are given "weight" on their site. If your site or you got higher "weight", you got more incoming links from the network, and vice versa. It is not reciprocal.

Coop ad network did a good job b4 trying to fool search engine that it is a network purely for advertising (hence the name ad-network), and not as an attempt of to manipulate search engine ranking (link network). Google buys that for a while, but recently google has been penalizing them like crazy.

But that doesn't mean you should stay far away from them, except if you targetting solely Google. I ran an experiment last year on a junk domain name (i think it's http://homeimprovement-tips.com, sold it again last year ), purely link network and link farms gives me 20,000 backlinks. And the next thing I know I rank top 5 in MSN for the term "home improvement tips" and actually get some decent traffic.

You never gonna achieve success with Google unless your domain is long enough because Google gives so much weight to "Age" factor alone. While MSN will see more on content, incoming links (despite quality or not), and keyword from domain (huge!).
