Shazz,
Glad that you asked that. My suggestion would be, blog something that you like to write about, something that you can talk all day long. Or even better, something that you can teach your fellow blog readers. Everybody loves to learn new things. On top of that, beware of blogging on an over saturated topic. By that, I mean any topic centering around internet marketing, make money online, blogging, celebrity, movie, gadgets, politics, humour, google, apple and sports. Those are the blog topics that has gazillion numbers of other blogs writing about it out there. |

Blogging making money?
Hi Lim,
Thanks for your reply. Is there a way that we can make money from blogging? Or is it a matter of posting more ads that will generate commission for us when visitors click on the banners? I thot I had Adsense posted up my 2 blogs, but I'm not quite sure what's the result out of it. Is it some setting that I need to do or something? Kinda confusing, especially when I didn't care about it initially until my friend asked me! :"> Hehehe... Thanks. - Shazz Zen |

yeah, blog about things within your interest. any topics has its own audience. its just the matter of time when you get more and more audience provided your content are genuine and interesting.
making money from blog is easy but making big money from blogging alone is very difficult; require lots of effort and experiment. try to surf around others blogs and forums, theres lots of tips and information available out there for you to discover and yeah, know who is problogger.net |

Whatever topic you have chosen ... there are many tips to monetize your site.. but here's an indirect but important one:
One authoritative post is worth more than 10 worthless posts Once a while, try to come out with a detailed article which is authoritative, useful, of high quality and can become a 'standard reference' for web surfers. This kind of posts are bound to get you the traffic and links .... and revenue of course. (It's easier to write this type of article if it's related to your interest or profession) |

as limcs said, just blog about ur interest and whatever u can talk all day long.
and for my suggestion, don't put ur mind set of starting a blog just to earn money, u will most probably fail. Build up the base first, write a couple of entries mayb around 15 - 20 entries, then only start putting up the google adsense or other moneytize thing. This would leave good impression on visitor who visits ur site, why? natural human thinking of malaysia ![]()

I'm agree with yipguseng.. (and yipguseng will shout; "there you're xara..finally return here to post something"..heheh).
I actually don't like to visit a blog with a lot of advertisement.. sometimes with pop up.. less is better.. but if you write something that is really good to read.. although you just wrote about your daily routine.. but in nice and proper language (english or bahasa. i wish i can understand mandarin@cantonese and can read my chinese friend's blog) or at least ease to understand with some funny touch here and there, i'll return to your blog again and again! ![]()

This happened to become a good thread, thanks for the input yip, robot and yong (which I will certainly include in the upcoming newsletter).
Now let's us discuss on her other part of questions: "How do we promote it once we 'build' it? " |
|
|||
A few ways to promote blogs:
1. Inform your friends. Also add to your email signature. 2. Comment on others' blogs (honest comments and don't put your link in the comment text - do it tastefully and don't spam - can also use Trackback to generate conversations and links) 3. Write useful, funny or interesting articles (not everyone would like to know what we ate for breakfast or what time we slept last nite haha) 4. Join forums and participate actively (add your signature - and again don't spam - make only sensible posts) 5. Submit to blog directories - technorati.com, topblogsites.net, blogtoplist.com, blogflare.com, topblogarea.com, bloggingfusion.com, blogpoint.com, dir.blogflux.com, blog-search.info, bloggernow.com, getblogs.com etc etc. 6. Syndicate your blog (RSS/Atom) Other members, please add. Last edited by yonghs; 30-05-2007 at 08:18 PM. |

7. Try do link exchange with the "reasonable" blogs that you visited and eventually you will have chance to have some visitors coming from there
8. Be more active and post more frequent. 1 post a day is good. 1 post in 2 days is still ok. 1 post in 3 days not ideal. And also be more active and frequent in blog hoping, meaning visit other's people blog more often. 9. Besides writing words or describe everything in words, is better to have some pictures to aid your explanation. Interesting and funny pictures helps a lot. 10. This might help on the first impression for the first time visitor, make an attractive and yet ease of reading design for your blog. Using the same old standard theme might turn the user down. Even if you are using some standard theme, try make some changes on the banners and stuffs. It does help make some difference ![]() 11. This is recommended, put a shoutbox on your blog. To give a room for ur user too leave u messages in case your post isn't relevent on what he/she wans to tell u - eg: link exchange request.

Wonderful, wong and yip almost covered everything. Here's more and probably unconventional one:
12. Blog about MEME , the hottest topic around, the hottest search in technorati. This enables a lot of people would pick on your blog. 13. Blog about something controversial, carefully. This also will expand the readership. 14. Print your blog address on your namecard (like Kenny Sia..and..um..me..). 15. Response to others blogpost. For example, instead of just leaving comment on that blog post, write a new post in response to it in your own blog. |
|
|||
If I print my blog address on my official namecard, my boss will kill me haha ... it's ok for personal namecards and those working alone tho.
And remember, namecards are meant to be given away...so don't be stingy, give em away at every opportunity ........... THROW YOUR NAMECARDS IN A CROWD (well, not so extreme... just to make a point) |
|
||||
wow..is good leh this, i guess after this we might can come up another topic on the NOT to DOs in blogging to describe all the precautions while blogging
