Favourite browsers - 11-05-2008, 12:09 PM

I use lynx you insensitive clods! But only on my servers...

I'm a firefox fan, but it still needs some work. When I'm checking my HTML, I usually fire up Opera and Epiphany to check it - got no access to IE, got no MS software here. Anybody know of a proxy site that can show an image of an IE-rendered page? I was using dillo, but it was too critical of mistakes in pages, like using my mother to browse the web.

amaRDaniel is right - where's the poll?

yipguseng made a good point about the malaysian web, it often doesn't work if you're not using IE, especially government sites, I find.

No, not dillo - 11-05-2008, 12:19 PM

Sorry, sorry, it wasn't dillo that was always complaining, just remembered it was amaya. Used them both for a while.

its hard just to compare memory usage by viewing the task manager...
you may see firefox use more memory... in fact task manager didn't reflect the "real" ie memory usage coz part of the ie runtime are already build into the os...

what supporting my claims.... see below and try to figure it out lar...

A: installation file comparison
by looking at the installation file size... u should know which one contain more files and use more memory.....

firefox 3 setup file is 7+mb
ie7 setup files is 14+mb

B: website load test...
run a fresh ie and firefox. clear all its cache first.
login to the following site:
1. yahoo mail
2. gmail
3. hotmail

after login to the 3 email account (actual login and not just open the website) to the above 3 webmail service.. then visit the task manager and see...
my suprise... ie used 138mb of memory while firefox3 used 97mb only...

C: Website unload test
continue from B... then logout all account and close the other 2 tab... the remaining tap then just visit google.com

my suprise again.... ie used 103mb of memory while firefox use 69mb of memory...

personal opinion: firefox is way better at memory management and ie just sucks as usual....
