One other alternative way for me to learn html is by viewing other website source code. You can find it under view page source in most web browser. Study at the source code then look at what the browser paparkan.

Notepad++ or Dreamweaver MX or NVU

HTML is to arrange how you want a web browser to display a site...
to style..use CSS to change its fonts, colors, and stuff
to make ur site Dynamic like those commerce site, use PHP, Rails, ASP, Java, and etc...
to add effect, u can try search about Javascript, Ajax, and their frameworks...

if u lazy to surf. buy a books "how to build a website"
if u not lazy.. just google it.

btw. if u playing myspace / friendster all that kind.. u will able to learn html language.

and from that u will able to build your own site by your own hand and idea.

html language is basic for newbies. better understand whut is language 1st and how to write them.

after u got a skill in writing html language.. u will able to read the code by your ownself .

html editor:
microsoft frontpage. (basic - expert)
macromedia dreamweaver.(basic - expert)
notepad(expert)

and u can learn at w3c.com

once u have skill in html..u will able to build website in php language.

trust me.
i also do like that. just play2 with html code and some javascript.
