Use webhosting with cpanel>fantastico - 03-03-2008, 12:41 AM

Make sure you find web hosting company that has cpanel with fantastico provided. U can install Joomla using fantastico. Start by learning how to change the template. Just search in Google Joomla free template and apply the template. Then learn about modules and components. After that only try to understand Joomla structure like section,categories,etc.

I suggest use the 1.0.13 version to get as a start.

Big web hosting company at servage dot com, give you 300 GB for $6.50 per month. They have scripts that will automatically install Joomla 1.5 (or older version 1.13) in about 1 minute. It automatically sets up a mySQL database. That is much easier and hacker safe than putting up your own server.

Joomla dot org has a complete user manual. Forum with many helpful people. You will need to download many extension from there anyway. Joomla does not come with a forum, but you can get one there.

Thanks Amar for the link. Yup, im quite good in joomla, for im a moderator in joomla international forum and founded Malaysian Joomla Community with several friends (Shaifful, Skyjuice, Syahzul).

For a newbie, avoid installing Joomla using Fantastico. A default fantastico installation has several permission issues that will prevent you from installing components / modules and will surely makes a newbie shy away from Joomla.

The second easiest way to have joomla is by downloading the package file from here:
1.0.x series
http://joomlacode.org/gf/download/fr...Package.tar.gz

1.5.x series
http://joomlacode.org/gf/download/fr...Package.tar.gz

After finish downloading, go to your cPanel, use the file manager and upload the file to your webroot (public_html). Then, right click on it and select Extract. later, go to http://www.sitedomain.com (or http://www.sitedomain.com/joomlafolder) and youll be redirected to Joomlas' installation page. Everything is quite straighforward from there. Just make sure you have created a mySQL database first before proceeding.

Again, please visit our documentation first.
Visit our malaysian forum here : Joomla-My Forum :: Indeks
and you may perhaps download the translation here : Komuniti Joomla Malaysia - Downloads

I highly recommend any newbie to use 1.0.x series first instead of 1.5.x due to incompatibility issue between 1.0.x components and the new 1.5.x. When you decided on a component, make sure its compatibility with your chosen Joomla series.

I have hacked a Joomla module to be used with Fireboard (joomla forum component). You may get it here:
f.u.q.a.h.a - Where Every Line has a Meaning - Downloads | Joomla

=)

Check ur php.ini settings

How? open a notepad and type this

<?php

phpinfo();

?>

and save as phpinfo.php and upload it to your server. Go to yourdomain.com/phpinfo.php and check for the output_buffering setting. My guess is it's OFF.

how to turn it on?

open a notepad and type this

output_buffering = On

save it as php.ini and upload it to you server.

This should work.

Just my two cents..
