You have to plan ahead, you have to assume that your website will be successful and many visitors will come daily. In that case, you can't depend on some cheap scripts to do the work. Yes they may save you some bucks now, but later on,you will realize that the cheap script is not satisfying your website needs anymore, then be ready to pay a very costy price. It is easier to do changes, updates, or replace the whole system while the site is small, but imagine if a site like mudah decided to change the whole structure over a night. It will consume alot of time and money and might also bring a risk to the business.
so to sum up, I suggest you take your time, test each script you get, and ask each provider to show you a demo of their product/system. Hosting wise it is ok, it won't be a big of a deal. but the most important is the backbone which is the software.. Here are some points you have to look at when you decide to purchase the software:
1. Must be scalable, that is very important. It should be easy to update by adding new functions, and modules. Sadly, few scripts have this feature. I believe if the software is built using MVC methodology, with a modular design, then it should be fine.
2. Must have a good support community. This is applicable to Open source solutions, but if you buy from a company, you have to look at their customer support and see what other customers say about their service. Don't buy from a company with no previous records..NEVER!
3. Again, It is very very important to ask the previous customers/users of any system to tell you about their experience. You don't have to go through the whole hustle somebody else already has been through. For me a company without a previous record is a NO NO even if the company's system is new. Better be safe.
4. Must be secure. That's obvious.
5. The last point is the cost, I think if you find a good software, then let your pocket be a little bit loose, after all nothing is free in this world.
I hope I helped,
