Well, HTML is a markup language or authoring language which is rendered by your browser (on the client side) and has no interaction with the web server.
A server-side language (such as PHP, ASP, etc) is executed on the server (meaning that it can manipulate files on the server, thus edit xml files). Server-side scripts generally output static HTML, however can be made to output other types of markup or authoring languages such as XML (Extensible Markup Language). To edit an xml file for example, you may need to enter data in a form in a HTML static page. That page may be submitted to a PHP script, which is a server side scriptiong language that can edit the xml file on the server. Once the php script has updated the file, it will return HTML or redirect to another page (which may show a "FIle updated" message) Now do you see why you can't edit an xml file with just HTML? --- hymns, open ur ftp client connect to ur host EDIT the html file you want (that's a good one.. LOL) |
