Maybe ramai yg dah tahu Google skrg ni dah berjaya mendajalkan ramai org dgn new listing concept diorang.. Bersempena dgn tu, aku nak buat kajian dan diharap sume sifoorians dpt menulun tuan hamba ini.. Ok.. diharap sesape yg boleh menulun aku kutip info tentang Open source atau PGL (Public General License) punye Search Engine..

Some of the criteria would be :-

1. enable geographical indexing (can limit search indexing to specific country, eg, malaysia, singapore)
2. has keyword targeted ads component (to sell text advertisements)
3. can generate a directory

Actually the new concept had been revised several times since last year. If you had been following the publication os SEO and other Search engine forums, google has lost a lot of their credibility in todays market share. They also had imposed several new strategies this year in fact it had been carried out a few days ago.

The differences is not really on their advertisement or website but actually how they serve every searching query. After all, its a search engine that we are talking about.

Sorry if my explanation is unclear to all of you. Let me explain the criterias of Open Source Search Engine (OSSS) in this survey.

This mean that the search engine has the option to crawl/index by specific region. Like say your search engine is a Malaysian search engine, you don't want to have Singapore/United States/Thailand result in the index. In another word, just Malaysian site will appear when indexing took place. Some advance OSSS doesn't need domain name, but crawl against the IP address of the server and based on APNIC, they can tell which country the IP is from.

The Targeted Keyword Advertisement is a simple and quick way to purchase highly-targeted advertising, regardless of your budget. Targeted Keyword Ads are shown on the right side of the results page to millions of users and are based on the keywords and phrases you select, which are relevant to the products or services you're advertising. Your keywords are matched against the search terms that users enter for a search. When a user enters the keywords or phrases that you've select for your campaign, your ads are displayed.

This mean that we can create our own directory for each category. For instance, you can regroup all site for car, vehicles, and etc under Autos directory. Another example is that you can put related cooking sites, beverage and etc under Food directory.

These 3 criteria is by far the most basic for future search engine. Please post your favorite open source search engine to help us with this survey.

As LcF said, I don't think you'll find an (opensource) application/script with the requirements you need.

yes.. yahoo or google spent maybe not million. but billion dollar

those search engine use spiders(bots) to 'crawl' thru the WWW, and record everything it pass thru. The HUGE amount of data will then be processed and recorded. It involve very larget amount of traffic...

about google.com .. it was their florida update .. i was effected by that but later (after weeks) my website seems to float to top 10 spots again. things are starting to get back to normal now about that google thing.

about the search engine ... i am a bit confused ... if you want to be able to define categories, mean you want a website indexing with search capabilities and not a search engines. is there any that suits your requirement ... frankly, i don't know.
