hmm... basically if you have enough knowledge in javascript and DOM, and any server side scripting language, you should be able to do ajax, it's been around for years just that no one named it as ajax. if you just need to do simple stuff, there're free ajax libraries available for general purposes.

for ajax with php, sajax is a nice little library. i don't know have you come across this one or not, it's a tutorial for ajax by using the sajax library http://www-128.ibm.com/developerwork...gr-lnxw07SAJAX

Basically all you need to do is get to MPH or any bookstores...
get an AJAX book ( well i suggest Head First AJAX or AJAX in action by Mannigfield )
Read them and just understand how it works...
ater that...
you can get to Scriptaculous and use the framework and start AJAXING ur site...easily...

this guide is quite simple and basic but is a good guide to start get ur hands dirty with ajax

for a more pocket-saving method u can download some free ebooks by googling around, those ebooks are usually published long time ago but the concepts still applies juz the tactic might not be up to date, but its free mah.

for ajax u need to know Javascript 1st, if u dont (like me ), u can get a some ebooks tat cover javascript + any server site script u like, i personally like this book ( i forgot where did i downloaded it ) its some thing like Ajax for dummies, yea the popular for dummies series, it cover both php n asp for ajaxing if not miskaten, if u wan juz leave ur email here so i can send the file for u

ZK is a framework...
just like Scriptaculous to use AJAX in an easier and quicker manner...
thats why i suggested reading AJAX from the book store to have a rough idea what in the world it is and how it works...then you don't need to know the head and tails and start using the framework to deploy ajax effect on your site~
