IPB vs vB vs PHPBB - Forum Board

Hi guys,

Those stands for :

IPB = Invision Power Board

vB = vBulletin

PHPBB = phpBB

Anyone know best forum and high security, i have tested ipb and vb but not tested yet phpbb. As i tested, ipb have more pro design admin panel and forum.

anyone have other reviews?

PunBB is similar to PHPBB but much more secure and requires fewer resources to run.

definitely VB. I'd used three of them, PHPBB full of bugs, IB lack some of the feature that I need, but VB have everything that I want in the forum. And lots of plugins/mod too. But it come at a price though, PHPBB is free, purchased price for IB is $80 USD I believe, but for VB, the price is $160 USD, you can choose to lease from them though, one year fee is $80 USD.

If you want another option of free BB, try SMF

Since IPB not free yet, and VB so expensive (if not converting kinda normal la 200+ ) .. so i choose smf is the best..
Phpbb? suxx .. bugs and security matter..

SMF looks not bad, but not idea hows the security...

Seriously, i never tried IPB before, so no comment on it.

For VB, is pro but u need to take sometimes to learn it. Compare VB to phpBB, phpBB is more user frienly and easy to use...

BTW, anyone come across flash based forum??

SMF - Formerly knows as the PERL powered YaBB! This forum has a poor interface!

VB - Some undetected security holes!

phpBB - The best, and will remain the best!

No, phpBB is certainly not the "best" anymore. It is too buggy and have a lot of security exploits which a lot of spam users are exploiting. I recently switched my forum from phpBB to SMF and I have no problems ever since. In fact, I would say that SMF is the best forum engine that I've ever used. There are features in SMF which you can only get in phpBB by modding. SMF features comes inbuilt, no modding required!

Some security issue for PHPBB has really bug me out. Punbb is my recent choice.

punbb is a simple and fast board software. But i need more than that, attachment etc.

Phpbb had many choice of theme. since it running for very long time. so no wonder they had thousands of free theme. BUT! they lacks of security, and need to much MODs.

i'ved been using phpbb for very long time before.. got hackeds, and hardly to mods on many thing, such as attachment bla bla bla bla.. Even the simple thing as split and merging topics! they did not have it. (latest version i dont know-lah) .

The most bad thing in phpbb, no SAFE MODE admin panel. if the theme is broken, whole site getting = critical error. Duh...

move it later to ipb - ipb wont offer free yet (and i got no money to buy it), i switch to SMF. smf is very advanced script. u can update patch and update just with a single CLICK in your admin panel. Easy!.. themes? right now, slowly lot's of theme is coming..

I tried smf few years ago at their early development stage and things did not quite impress me, but I think things changed since. Will try it if given a chance.

There is another 'different' forum script around, Vanilla forum, where everything including the normal way usually work for a forum is totally different. You either love it or hate it http://getvanilla.com/

wait until next SMF stable release. Currently 1.1.* RC3 . The default theme should be nice! As shown at their support forum.

VB is the best, but for the null user :P, VB is not secure because they have team to make your VB down. they will contact the hosting and tell the hosting that u r using the null version. phpbb is good enough for free bb.
