Website by U student on Industrial Training
Please take a look at Selamat Datang Ke Laman Web Tukar Barang
This site was recently developed by a university student during her practical training with us, as a means of getting some practice in using PHP, MySQL, Photoshop, etc. I have asked her to continue maintaining this site and to improve it based on feedback from visitors. Hopefully, she can use it to her advantage in her resume when she has graduated. So if there are any suggestions for improvement (something that you feel a final year university student should be able to do), please either post it here (and I will pass it on to her) of place your comments in the forum that she has set up at the site. Thanks. |

Did she code it all herself, or she's using any CMS? If she coded all of it herself, pretty nice. If it runs on CMS, it's not.
..And i figured U students love to make something like "Selamat Datang Ke...bla bla..." for the page title if they're building up websites. Probably because they (some of them probably) don't understand (or probably don't know?) SEO. |

She coded it all by herself. The assignment that I gave her included having to learn PHP and MySQL from scratch, so she was not allowed to use any CMS.
And yes, she initially had "Selamat datang...." on the site, but she changed it after a short lecture on SEO by yours truly ![]() But I forgot to take a look at her source code. She needs to fix a few things there. It's terribly mixed up. Look at how many "head' and "body" she has. Need to teach her about metatags too... hmmm... I've not been paying enough attention to her work.

rarely found 'coding from scracth' female PHP programer itself.. i'ved try to hack into admin at HERE ok ok.. look like she coded it herself.. hehe.. She had a bright future if she keep going on . "Living in malaysia, working for UK / US company" online. Get paid USD 1K or 2K montly... or 1K pound sterling.. Teletransfer salary money.. That should be nice. ![]() Last edited by mysticmind; 04-12-2007 at 11:01 AM. |

Well, considering that she is an undergraduate doing practical training and this is the first time that she has ever worked with PHP and MySQL - after having to learn it at the beginning of her practical training (what's with the universities these days? Why are they focussing so much on theory and so little on building skills ? ) - I really don't expect too much from her.
Her supervisor came around and seems happy enough with what she has done. And thanks for the comments that everyone has given.

Yup. Local. No wonder Deputy PM gave a talk to universities about producing "market ready graduates" a few months ago.

maybe u should try taking some private college students.
year 2 internships requirements. asp.net/php (select either) html css javascript mysql flash most of the above mention stuff have to be known before they hire. these are the basic requirement posted on colleges noticeboard, privates ones atleast that im aware. sometimes i wonder if its some unspoken rule with the goverment and companies to hire people with less capability? |

Hmm...to me it's not the matter of "local" or "over-the-seas" Uni, "private" or "public" college. It all depends on the individual themselves. I went to local and a public Uni, and I learnt all the web/domain/SEO/bla bla stuff on my own and ran a few pretty successful websites since I was in college. I think it's a matter of someone's will, I guess.
(There were optional/mandatory subjects on Web design (HTML/CSS), XML, etc., but what you get from these classes, giving the shortness of their credit hours, it's not that much). |
