Hi, apparently this forum seems to be very useful for a website review, judging from the number of responses.

I started Ensiklokamus Teknologi Maklumat about a year ago. The site ranking dropped drastically after I changed the domain name from e-komputer.info to teknologi-maklumat.com recently. Previously it had a number of No. 1 spots in Google search simply because Malay articles on the internet are so few. I added a blog recently and I suddenly realized how good blogs are in driving traffic.

Do give me your frank opinion, no matter how brutal, and I will appreciate your frank comments. Also, tell me the good points about the website so that I can develop it further. Every suggestion is welcome, whether you are an expert or not, because as a potential visitor, it's your opinion that matters.

Also, do let me know your website so that I can see if I can offer any suggestions.

1. Header needs to be more appealing.
2. CSS should be used throughout the site to make it standardise

Other than that, I think the wiki content is great!

First impressions are - good looking site! I can't read BM though, so maybe not your target visitor...

You've got a stray (my browser is displaying it in plain text) <br> tag in your footer (inside a <li> tag?), and the logo at top left says "set $wgLogo to the URL..."

Thank you Seanie, actually the logo at top left has not been added and what you see is a logo template. Sorry the browser displayed in plain text. Could it be that I was fiddling with the MediaWiki software while you were looking? I fumbled while trying to make some changes and realized that it was not a good time to do so, especially so when I had just put up this post.

Actually, I was trying to do that after Edwinmasripan's comment but failed miserably, hehehe. No graphic artist skills in me, but I will keep both your comments in mind and look out for a suitable banner.

The reason why it looks like Wikipedia is because I am using the same software. But I am trying to change the skin to make it look more like Wikia but unfortunately, Wikia does not allow others to use it. So I guess I will have to tinkle with the Monobook.php file and get something close.

Hi edwinmasripan and avatar. Actually my banner concept follows my other website at Dummipedia.org. I was spending the whole of last night trying to find some ideas in the internet but has not been at all successful, short of designing my own. But with a kayu brain for artwork, I doubt that I can do that. Well, if the site earns enough pennies to engage a professional graphic artist, I will get the banner changed.

I also realized that I do not do a good job at copying the Dummipedia banner concept. Thus, it looks like a bad cut-and-paste job. Do both of you think that the Dummipedia banner looks better or that it needs to be changed too?

Still got that '<br>Dasar privasi' showing at the foot of the page - I see in the source it's html escape sequences for the less-than and greater-than. Doesn't look like what you intended, anyway.

I don't know about that header image - it's never going to win any beauty contests, for sure, but it's not that bad either. As the old saying goes "you don't look at the mantle piece while you're stoking the fire" - you've got interesting content below it. And it's quite a small file - if your site got millions of visitors, you might not want to be serving millions of copies of something nobody's going to look at. That's something a lot of gov.my websites get wrong. They often have 100kB+ animated gifs on a page with 200bytes (or fewer) of useful information.

As for dummipedia, I thought it sounded interesting, but my browser won't render it. It downloads the source for the page, but just sits there telling me it's busy with nothing on the screen. I suspect it must be downloading something from Google. I haven't had much luck browsing anything from Google for a week or so now - partial pages and frequent timeouts. Has a Malaysian search engine bought a stake in TM Net?

Hi Seanie, thanks for the quick response. Ya, I was trying to get a line break at Dasar Privasi but the php file won't recognize it. I will fix it tomorrow as I am going out in a little while.

You mentioned, "And it's quite a small file." I don't quite get it. What does "it" means?

As for Dummipedia, I am really sorry. This site is hosted in America while Ensiklokamus Teknologi Maklumat is hosted in Malaysia. I tried to access the page a second ago and it loaded instanteously. Somehow, I always find Dummipedia easier to load than Ensiklokamus, I don't know why. Try typing just the word "dummipedia" in the address bar and see if it works for you? (By the way, I use Firefox, I hardly go into IE these days. Maybe I should do it more regularly to see what my visitors experience with IE. Maybe my website looks even uglier there!)

Dummipedia loaded quite quickly just now - not an issue with its hosting, but my ISP's network, I'm sure.

No prizes again, but fit for purpose. Might be worth chatting up a graphic designer at some time, it doesn't really give a 'dummipedia' feeling. Wikipedia's logo looks encyclopedic somehow. If you have a lot of visitors, maybe you could run a design competition? Maybe there's a site dedicated to logo design comps somewhere...

Thanks Seanie, for your frank comments. I will look out for a graphic artist once I start promoting the site. Sites like this need a critical number of articles in the thousands to be worthwhile promoting. It is a long term project.

(P/S: I am trying to remove the <br> from Dasar Privasi but apparently I am having problems with the Cpanel tonite. I have contacted my webhost and will do the minor correction as soon as possible.)
