I am having a major problem not knowing how to edit the default phpbb template right now. PHPBB uses *.tpl files not .html files so I don't know how to edit on a WYSWYG editor. I wish it is as easy as tweaking the design on an html page.

Also, ardiles mentions that you are PS expert. Any words of wisdom or design suggestions?

Regarding invisionpowerboard, is it free? I got phpbb only because it is free, but it has serious limitations, like very difficult to install a file upload/photo attachement feature. Do you know if invision is free and it has more user-friendly customization procedures?

and kalau boleh letak header or banner at the top! so, tak lah empty sangat without any infomation.. yg gambar atas kiri tu better replace with logo.. overall, layout kena upgrade sket..k!

em.. just atleast change the logos. looks very odd. match it with the background colour or u can change the theme tu match with ur logo...

Try to seperate your topics.... to modify tpl is not difficult, as long as you know html.

But the thing is, this php *.tpl stuff at the moment is beyond me. I know what need to be changed but don't know how! :O

Do you think if I can open the *.tpl files in an WYSWYG editor, like Dreamweaver or Frontpage? I thought I read somewhere that you are not supposed to edit the *.tpl files with Dreamweaver and FP??

good improvement there.. errr... dont you think the image on the right is a bit "spoiled"..? in my oppinion, the logo color at left is match already.. but suddenly my eyeView is interrupted by a Box of Image with Green theme on the right.. and 1 thing, dont you think the logo/image is BIG..?

Yes I agree the "green" may not be matching, will look for other images. Also my monitor resolution is quite high, so it appears just "normal" to me.

But in the meantime, anybody has suggestions as to how to promote a site like that, to get discussions going?

a suggestion?.. just fill up your site with a best and good contents above others site in borneo.. so you'll get better and much user/members!

custom made theme mean..
design your own graphic.
slice it, make it on html.
then adjust it into the phpbb theme lah~

i have experienced using phpbb about 2 ++ year at my forum before if not mistaken since version 1.0.4 ( old version).

then i found (actually recommend by MHR) IPB (invision power board) is better. Exspecially by the advanced admin section and more secure also easy to manage and creating theme.

In phpbb, the *.tpl is stand for TEMPLATE file.
Even it was a HTML based languange, but there's something to take attention about using comment tag <!-- blablabla -->
The comment tag has ben change to command line!
<!-- start if user login --> something like that. ( i'm not really remember the command)
if the <!-- is not on the list, the forum will return some error like : critical error! duhhh..

in another part is, while change the template, you'll need to download it manually, edit the theme also manual then upload again and again.. thats what i hate to do..

Try do you own theme, life and learn friend..
The hard thing will make you more and more confidence and 'know how and what to do'.
It's not an easy matter to be a webmaster instead.

And yes I agree with you, invision power board is much better, I also want it. But it also costs money to install, and since my site is running on non-profit basis right now, I cannot justify the cost. Unless I am missing something here?
