Post Any Free Websites for practice?

Howdy folks..I was just wondering.....if you have good design skills and some webpage building skills..what should one do to get this knowledge up and running in the web.

I'm looking for some great free webhosting where I could test my webpages and improvise my techniques. The only on I currently used is Geocities but I'm still looking for other free or cheap hosting where I could test my Sites without those damn banners!

Also...How could I get people to employ my skills.I have done some freelance work such as logo designs, simple webpages, wallpapers, posters and other designs......hey...got to pay my bills!!

Hey check out the sample..it you think this is great..you should see what I could when it comes to designing!

Kalaiz.. I like the design you attached. Would you consider create a theme for www.cybersist.com? Currently cybersist.com have 4 themes but oviously it is not enough. I dont have the capability to pay you but your contact info will be displayed next to the theme you created so if people like the theme you designed they might go to your website or contact you. what do you think? Also are you familiar with CSS?

How much space do you need?

The best way to get people to employ you is by proving your talent and getting in good favour with them.

Doing simple things like letterheads and other stuff for companies you know employ designers and then presenting it to them as a free gift when you introduce yourself can work wonders. Almost no one does this so you will stand out, which will both help ensure people remember you when their next job comes up and put you in their good books.

If you know a company is looking for a web designer, you could prepare a mock-up before you go and see them. They will be both surprised and pleased that you have taken the trouble, and assuming you do a decent job that will be enough to put you ahead of the competition. Also spend some time creating a portfolio of completed websites to show.

All the best,

mac

mac, very good idea!

Well, if you are looking for free webspace that support PHP and MySQL database, I can offer one for you.

If you do not need PHP and MYSQL, there are many free webspace without ads from the link I given previously. Just take some time to explore and find the one suits your needs.

good luck

Thanks folks....for the warm reply,as for the cybersist,I have checked it out and yes I will try to help you for free as part of my training.I will comment on the website layout only if you want me to and pls give me a few days to come up with some funky designs that could better relate to your website.

As for the website space,I think anything worth doing should be at least 30MB don't you think?...and for the amount of graphics and shit that I have could be rather heavy....so I'm stuck here.

I will send you a sample if you want...I mean a webpage layout or something like that.As for community services and goodwill works,I have been doing stuff for free since the dawn of time and yes I enjoy it only that this is not paying my bills.Anyway I used to do this for training and somehow I have done it many times.

So hang on folks..I will put my skills to work and hopefully get something useful for the cybersist page..

Have a nice day folks and thank you for the warm feedback people!!

kalaiz... Thanks for the help. cybersist themes uses skins technique so there are some rules in order for any design to fit with cybersist. (think of Winamp with multiple skins out there), so the layout is pretty much fixed (any big change will make existing themes and skins not work). I need to create a SDK/sample with rules and give you the package to work on. So hang in there first while i prepare the package.

Skins....wooo...I'm not really familiar with those but I know about the skins, just don't know how to create on.I know there is a special program to design winamp skins so that it will fall into the right place perfectly.

I much comfortable with standard gif and jpg stuff,however...I'm always ready to learn new things so let em roll!

Hi hftey.....

I've downloaded the theme and it looks something similar to what I would call "slices".Actually what software are you using to produce this material as I could learn to use it too and create what you actually could use.I'm familiar with Adobe and I think I could create a layout for your website, only that mine is really different.I don't like to use straight lines such as tables, rows and columns.

Right now I just want to know what software you used to built that site...you know the ones with the theme.

Kalaiz... I am no designer and i use a painful but faithful adobe photoshop for the task I think Macromedia Fireworks works better in slicing but I never use it.

As for the layout, you can come out with a new one that can fit cybersist just keep in mind make it flexible so other people can easily create a theme for the layout. And the themes are not just changing the colors but also the "skins" or slice images whatever you call it. Also the tab links currently can be expanded or reduced, meaning I can have more tabs or remove tabs, so keep that in mind for the layout.

hmmm... if user of cybersist can not only change themes but also the layout that would be fantastic isn;t it? hehe

I'm good with Photoshop and Image Ready.Rightnow I'm trying to animate my image ready pages to make it more realistic.

Somehow if you are using photoshop it could be easier for me to construct stuff for the website but I just can't seem to figure out how you put everything together.

Your website is rather advanced.I guess you are really good in programming but you need help with the designs right?...I can't help you do it provided I get the corret way to put things in order just like you need it.

Kalaiz .. i see you had created an account there. just try login and go to settings and select themes. Select a theme and click save to see. I am happy with the design/layout, I just need more themes on my website. Currently I have 4 themes. The sdk zip file you downloaded contain all the information you need to create the theme. Please read the file "readme" for more information. and play around with the sample_theme.html to get the idea on how it works. It is not complicated at all actually.

You can take your time on this. No rush at all or if you think it is too much of a hassle for you then thats ok too.
