I wonder why they didn't make the logo as flash, given all their... ahem, resources. The montage underneath is quite neat, so I don't think creativity is lacking. To say that they don't like Swish (as what I used for my version) is not appropriate since they apparently did use Swish for another flash further down.

My Swish swf is only 17.1 kb - even with the added 'extra'. Their GIF is 76k. Not much but it does take a while to load those frames. Then again, maybe it's just me - I learned coding with a 14.4kbps.

they might think of website compatibility ... gif is viewable on all browser (that has gui ... hehe) ... flash is not, it need for plug-in.

some user can live without fash plugin so they dont install it ...

anyway ... for more compatibility in mind ... i guess they better use still image ... still image also can do wonders if u design it right

anyway ... u might want to suggest that to them ... :P maybe got something back for your kindness ? .. hehe

u're missing the point: if they are concerned about flash compatibility, then why do they have that nice and big montage just below the logo?

my implied point was to justify 76k GIF vs. 17k SWF. And it's not something jaw-dropping anyway, just simple text effects.

What I suspect is that the logo has been around for some time, before Flash became widely used and they're just too lazy to change.

All said, I do agree with malayneum about the wonders of still images - if you do it right (and light).

well what i mean by website compatibility is ... they might want all user to actually see the top banner ... but didnt really care if the flash montage below it can be see by user or not ...

lots of conclusion / reason can be think of lah ... haha .. i'm not backing them ... just want to think why do they do that ... and its quite hard to understand somebody else.

what can be said ... do they use professional web designer anyway ... if so, that is so unprofessional design ... :P

actually the GIF on that site can be much smaller size. They just put all in one big GIF. That's bad.

Personally, I prefer static banner than an animated one.

Hmmm...I sorta like the Flash montage on MRCD website. Dunno why didnt they put up their banner in .swf format too...big company have lousy website designing skills

I think the logo was the boss's idea, and nobody is gutsy enough to counter-advise him.
